Who needs it: International mobility and Freemover mobility
How to obtain it: contact the Swiss embassy in your country
Time needed: a VISA permit can take up to 3-4 months
RESIDENCE PERMIT
Who needs it: all non-Swiss students
How to obtain it: apply for a residence permit “L” for educational purposes
Time needed: the application must be submitted within 14 days of their arrival in Switzerland

It’s the resident’s office of the municipality in which you live
Who needs it: all students
How to obtain it: go to the physical office to register yourself

HEALTH INSURANCE
Everybody in Switzerland needs to have health insurance or
be one of the following exceptions:
Students with EU/EFTA citizenship, holding a European Health Insurance Card ⟶ Form TI 6.1
Students with private insurance in EU/EFTA countries that comply with Swiss standards ⟶ Form TI 6.2
Students with private insurance from Non-EU/EFTA countries that comply with Swiss standards ⟶ Form TI 6.3

There are 2 types of postal letters:
Type A: fast mail, bound to arrive the next day, costs more
Type B: convenient mail, bound to arrive within 3 days, costs less

GARBAGE RULES
Lugano has very strict garbage disposal rules, with specific bags depending on the zone, and a yearly garbage tax
The garbage bags can be bought at any supermarket
Red bags: forthe Lugano city area
Yellow bags: Collina d’Oro area

TV LICENSE FEE
TV LICENCE FEE
In Switzerland, every individual is obligated to pay a TV license fee (even if you don’t have a TV)
The bill comes once a year to everybody who’s registered in the country at their domicile
The cost is 335 CHF, but from 2027 it will be reduced to 312 CHF
