ESN Lugano - Hike Monte Bar
Hey hikers,
ESN Lugano has organized a hike to one of the highest mountains around Lugano!
We’ll be heading to Capanna Monte Bar, passing through Motto della Croce. Please note that this will be the most challenging hike of the semester so far — it’s over 12 km long with around 1,000 m of elevation gain.
Be aware that the difficulty is classified as Advanced.
We are also happy to announce a new initiative: CleanHike!
CleanHike is a project in which we'll try to unite the beauty of hiking together with the safekeeping of the enviroment.
The goal is simple: exploring the mountain while also taking time to collect the litter we find along the trails to take care of the nature surrounding us.
If during the hike you find something that doesn't belong in the mountain, just look for an ESN member. We'll be provided with trash bags to collect everything we find to throw it away altogether

Meeting Point and Time
Lugano train station, at the top of the escalators, at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, 09.11.2025
What to Bring
- A water bottle
- Lunch (we’ll eat all together at the top)
- Comfortable shoes and clothes (hopefully it’ll be nice and sunny, but it might get chilly during lunch)
Trip Overview
Outward journey
- From Lugano, stazione to Tesserete, paese (Bus 461, 9:10 to 9:26)
- From Tesserete, stazione to Lelgio, paese (Bus 446, 9:29 to 9:39)
- Hiking: 10:00 to 17:30 (expected duration, including a 1-hour lunch break)
Return journey
- From Lelgio, paese to Tesserete, paese (Bus 446, 17:47 to 17:53)
- From Tesserete, stazione to Lugano, stazione (Bus 461, 18:00 to 18:18)

Please note that the train/bus tickets are not included with the form registration — you’ll need to buy your own.
